Employee of the Year Nomination Process

(Classified Employee of the Year; Teacher of the Year; Golden Onion; Staff Achievement Grant)

Walla Walla Public Schools would like to celebrate the hard work and dedication of school and district employees. Washington State has an Employee of the Year award for both teachers and support staff. Please take this opportunity to thank our wonderful staff by nominating one of them for a prestigious state award.

Classified School Employee of the Year

Please nominate someone that you believe demonstrates the following attributes:

  • Has the respect and admiration of their colleagues.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, students, and families to create a school culture of respect and success.
  • Is a leader who makes connections between their daily work and student achievement.

  • The nomination form opens online in November.
  • OSPI sends the nominee, their supervisor and our regional coordinator a copy of the nomination and a link to the online application.
  • Nominees must submit an application which includes biographical information, essays, a resume and letters of recommendation. 
  • Timeline Snapshot:
    1. November: nomination form opens
    2. Late January: nomination deadline
    3. Mid-February: nominee application due
    4. March: regional selection
    5. May: State Classified School Employee of the Year announced

Teacher of the Year

Please nominate someone that you believe demonstrates the following attributes:

  • The teacher has the respect and admiration of their colleagues.
  • The teacher is an expert in their field who guides students of all backgrounds and abilities to achieve excellence.
  • The teacher collaborates with colleagues, students, and families to create a school culture of respect and success.
  • The teacher deliberately connects the classroom and key stakeholders to foster a strong community at large.
  • The teacher demonstrates leadership and innovation in and outside of the classroom walls that embodies lifelong learning.
  • The teacher expresses themselves in an engaging and articulate way.

  • The nomination form opens online in January or early February.
  • OSPI sends the nominee, their principal and our regional coordinator a copy of the nomination and a link to the online application.
  • Nominees must submit an application by the given deadline o be considered for our region's finalist.
  • Typical Timeline Snapshot:
    1. Jan/Feb: nomination form opens
    2. March 1: nomination deadline
    3. April 1: nominee application due
    4. July: regional selection
    5. September: State Teacher of the Year announced
