Scholarships for Bilingual Education

A $30,000 grant from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction is continuing to fund a scholarship program to help Walla Walla Public Schools’ classified staff and high school seniors pursue careers in Bilingual Education. The district will award three to four $1500 scholarships to current Walla Walla Public Schools para-professionals who plan on becoming teachers and two, $1500 non-renewable scholarships to current seniors attending Walla Walla Public Schools who plan on becoming teachers. The remaining funds will be used for professional development, recruitment of bilingual educators and parent engagement activities.

"We are elated to have an opportunity to extend our support of students and staff in our district,” said Dr. Julie Perron, Director of Equity and Dual Programs. “This grant furthers our ability to focus on creating and sustaining a learning experience that is bilingual, biliterate and bicultural. Grants such as these allow us to embrace language as a true resource. The scholarship and professional development funds help continue our message of hope for future teachers, and our commitment to equitable practices."

Applications for district staff are now available at the Walla Walla Public Schools Human Resources office and on the WWPS Equity and Dual Programs website. They are due Dec. 6, 2019. Recipients will be notified by Dec. 18, 2019. Applications for students are available at high school counseling offices and on the WWPS Equity and Dual Programs website.
