Engineering Week

Recently 200 Wa-Hi and SEATech students met with members of the Corps of Engineers to learn about their work as part of Engineering Week. Corps of Engineers employees presented to the Wa-Hi Chemistry, Engineering, and AMPED students as well as the SEATech Construction Technology classes about the roles engineers play in society. They discussed the different types of engineering and informed the students about an upcoming egg protection competitions.

Students were invited to create a method to protect an egg so it will speedily go through a gravity-fueled maze. Winners of the competition at each school are invited to go on a field trip to one of the Corps-operated dams for an in-depth tour of the structure and turbines.

Earlier this year the Corps partnered with Walla Walla High School when they brought several female staff members to the school for a Women in Leadership presentation. Students learned about multiple engineering disciplines from different women engineers. They also have an engineering job shadow program for Walla Walla High School students visit the Corps offices and learn more about this career opportunity. Thank you to the Walla Walla branch of the Army Corps of Engineers for this valuable partnership.
