District helps fund Orchard Street lighting project
School board members unanimously voted to fund $10,000 to Walla Walla County for street lights as part of the Orchard Street improvement project.

The district funds will help pay for nine LED street lights. School Board president Anne Golden said the Orchard St. project is operating on a tight budget and funds were not available for the street light phase.

School board members said the safety of students getting to and from school justified the expenditure. The district has a long-standing partnership with the City of Walla Walla and Walla Walla County on school zone safety projects. The Orchard St. project will be completed in August.
