AVID students honored for academic achievement

The 6th Annual AVID (Advancement Via Individual Achievement) Academic Recognition and Family Night was Thursday night at the Walla Walla High School Performing Arts Auditorium. Approximately 135 AVID students representing all grade levels received certificates for academic achievement. Jerome Minster served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies. Micah Aguilar (Freshmen), Andy Flores (Sophomore), Ethan Rasmussen (Junior), and Katrina James were the class speakers.

Wa-Hi Culinary students, under the direction of teacher Barbara Buttice, provided an assortment of delicious desserts prior to the ceremony. Senior class teachers Carina Stillman and Vivian Glaeser were honored for their support and guidance of this year’s graduates. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
