This week, Walla Walla High School is sending five athletes to the Mat Classic in Tacoma for the state wrestling championships (February 17-18) and 10 more competitors to Federal Way for the state Dive and Swim Championships (February 16-18).

In wrestling, senior Mateo Caso won the championship of the Region IV tournament to advance to Tacoma. In addition, Jon Smith, Carter O’Dell, Kylie Whitaker, and Alexa Kemp (alternate) all earned spots in the brackets to compete for a state championship. Last Saturday, February 11, in round #1 of the District 8 MCC/GSL Basketball tournament, the Blue Devil girls and boys basketball teams played spirited and competitive games to come away victorious in front of a raucous student body and community crowd. The girls defeated University High School by a score of 62-59 with timely free-throw shooting down the stretch. The boys team took down the Mead Panthers by a score of 79-68 in overtime with clutch three point shooting and an active zone defense.

Tuesday, Valentines Day, saw no love toward the Blue Devils as both Mead (girls) and Mount Spokane (boys) defeated WWHS in the second round of the District 8 tournament. Round one victories placed the Blue Devils into the double elimination portion of the bracket. Thus, both teams will play at home Thursday night, February 16. The girls tipoff at 5:00 p.m. against Mt. Spokane, followed by the boys vs Ferris at 7:00 p.m. Teams are competing to play again Saturday in a winner to state game.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors/students (K-12). Walla Walla High School students are admitted free with an ASB card. Fans may purchase tickets ahead of time online at ticket spickit - link: WWHS District 8 Tickets
