Local contractor awarded Pioneer Middle School boiler bid
Upgrade expected to save district thousands annually in utilities costs
Walla Walla Public Schools Board of Directors today during a special school board meeting awarded Valley Mechanical, Inc. of Walla Walla the contract to install new natural gas boilers at Pioneer Middle School.
This project represents phase two of the project to complete the new system to provide energy efficient heating to the school.
"This project will reduce natural gas usage and save the district thousands of dollars each year in energy costs," said Chief Financial Officer Pat Johnston. "The current Pioneer steam boilers are 1950s era equipment and have long exceeded their life expectancy."
Scope of Project:
- Three, high efficiency condensing natural gas boilers
- Gas-fired gym air handlers
- Locker room ventilation
- Electric heaters in various small spaces
Project Timeline:
- Construction to begin June 2012 and be completed by the start of the 2012-13 school year
Project Cost:
- Approximately $600,000
Project Funding Sources:
- Excess Edison Elementary bond proceeds
- District General Fund Budget
- Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction grant
