How to Register for School

Students may register year-round (except mid-June to mid-August) at their attendance area school. District boundary maps detailing your attendance area are available at all Walla Walla Public Schools, the district office (364 S. Park St.), and online. Attendance area is based on street address.

Special Note:  Sharpstein Elementary School is the home school for Edison attendance area non-dual language kindergarten students. Registration is done in-person at Sharpstein Elementary School, which is located at 410 Howard St. 

 

Kindergarten

Students entering kindergarten must be five-years-old on or before August 31. Prospective kindergartners should register at their attendance area elementary schools. District boundary maps detailing your attendance area are available on the district website, at all Walla Walla Public Schools and the district office.  Attendance area is based on street address.

Enrollment for the next year's kindergarten program now takes place during the spring. More information will be published in school newsletters, the local newspaper, and on the district website. Contact your child's attendance area school for more information. 

Note: Students must turn five no later than August 31st of the year in which they enroll for kindergarten.    Younger students, who turn five between September 1 and September 31, may be tested for early entrance, but there is no guarantee of placement.

Elementary School

What is needed:

  • The district will accept any one of a variety of documents for purposes of establishing a student’s age—for example, a birth certificate (U.S. or foreign), a baptismal record, or another alternative document.
  • list of immunizations
  • verification of address
    • water/utility bill;
    • rent payment receipt showing the address for the rented or leased home or
    • rental or lease agreement for the home currently occupied by parent or guardian;
    • Completed questionnaire verifying housing status

 

Secondary School

What is needed:

  • The district will accept any one of a variety of documents for purposes of establishing a student’s age—for example, a birth certificate (U.S. or foreign), a baptismal record, or another alternative document.

  • withdrawal sheet or report card from the previous school
  • verification of address
    • water/utility bill;
    • rent payment receipt showing the address for the rented or leased home or
    • rental or lease agreement for the home currently occupied by parent or guardian;
    • Completed questionnaire verifying housing status

 

  

Open Enrollment/Kindergarten Registration

Secondary Open Enrollment for the 2020-2021 School Year

Walla Walla Public Schools will hold secondary open enrollment for middle and high school students for the 2020-2021 school year during April/May 2020. The middle and high schools will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 20 - May 1 to complete the open enrollment process.

Secondary parents/guardians who wish to open enroll their child to a school outside of their attendance area may pick up an Open Enrollment application at their attendance area school or a release form from their current school district office during normal business hours beginning April 13. However, forms will not be accepted in the receiving school until Monday, April 20.

Kindergarten Registration and Elementary Open Enrollment

The Kindergarten registration and elementary open enrollment period is Monday, April 20 to Friday, May 1, 2020. Kindergarten registration will be conducted at the student’s attendance area elementary school.  Parents wishing to pick up the kindergarten registration information may do so at their child’s school beginning April 13. 

Kindergarten/Elementary Open Enrollment Registration Hours:

Monday, April 13 - 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tuesday, April 14 – Friday, April 26 - 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Parents/guardians who wish to open enroll their child to a school outside their attendance area may pick up an Open Enrollment application or release forms at their attendance area school during normal business hours beginning April 13. 

Open enrollment requests within Walla Walla Public Schools are granted according to priorities outlined in School Board Policy No. 3130, which will be used to determine the placement of a student. School Board Policy manuals are available for public viewing at all Walla Walla Public Schools and the Administration Office. School Board policies are also online at http://www.wwps.org/district/information/school-board/policies.

RCW 28A.710.060 requires school districts to provide information to parents and the general public about charter schools located within the district as an enrollment option for students. Currently, Willow Public Charter School is the only charter school operating within the Walla Walla School District boundaries.
