Walla Walla High School student invited to University of Washington Math Academy
Walla Walla High School junior Kelsey Gabel was selected to attend the highly competitive University of Washington Mathematics Academy. This month long program is sponsored by the university Engineering Department. Gabel received one of 30 slots for the program which will be held this summer on the campus of the University of Washington.
Gabel wrote two essays and submitted several teacher and counselor recommendations as part of the application process.
"Kelsey is an outstanding student at Walla Walla High School who has earned a 3.93 grade point average," said Jeanne Ruecker, Walla Walla High School school counselor. "He has excelled in math and science and has taken the initiative to pursue his interests outside the classroom. Kelsey has taken numerous Honors and Advanced Placement courses and is a member of the high school orchestra, the Walla Walla Youth Symphony and the National Honor Society. He hopes to become an aerospace engineer."

Gabel has also applied for the week long Washington Aerospace Scholars Program. He will learn later this month if he is accepted.
