Kansas City doctor says The Health Center on cutting edge of care for at-risk students

Thursday donors and supporters of the The Health Center were honored during a Donor Thank You celebration. The main goal of The Health Center is to deliver primary health and mental health care and substance abuse counseling for all the students at Lincoln High School and Blue Ridge Elementary. Donors heard from The Health Center staff members, Walla Walla Public Schools administrators and Lincoln High School students about how these services have helped improve student achievement, student behavior and health. Guests also toured the Health Center at Lincoln and Lincoln High School.

“The Health Center is on the cutting edge of holistic care for kids who are at-risk,” said Dr. Denise Dowd, of Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Dr. Dowd was in the Northwest to speak to Providence Sacred Heart medical staff in Spokane. “The Health Center is combining physical care and mental health care with education as part of a wrap-around service,” Dowd said. “It’s very unique in the country, so I applaud the efforts here and hope to see The Health Center flourish in the future.”

The Health Center was established five years ago to promote the success of students by providing for their physical, emotional, and social well-being. Thousands of students have received care since being established. Learn more at: Website: Health Center
