Rob Ahrens Promoted

Ahrens named Director of Walla Walla Online, Opportunity and Homelink Programs

Walla Walla High School Assistant Principal Robert “Rob” Ahrens has been promoted to the Director of Walla Walla Online, Opportunity program and soon to be returning Homelink program. Ahrens will replace current Director Tom Porter who is retiring in December. He will begin his new role in July to allow adequate time to work alongside Porter during the leadership transition.

Ahrens also has experience as the Assistant Principal at Pioneer Middle School. Prior to that he spent 19 years as a Science teacher at Walla Walla High School. Ahrens also served four years as Science and Math teacher at Sunnyside High School. He holds a National Board Certification in science, received the WWPS Staff Achievement award in 2009 and earned the WSU Educator of Excellence honor in 2006. Ahrens received his Bachelor of Arts in Education from Eastern Washington University, a Master of Education in Professional Development from Heritage University and a Principal Certification from WSU Tri-Cities.

“His experience, positive attitude, work ethic, and strong relationships were the perfect fit for our current and expanding programs,” said Superintendent Dr. Wade Smith.

Ahrens will help spearhead the return of the Homelink program set to resume this fall. He says he is thankful to work in a school district that provides such a wonderful variety of opportunities to meet the educational needs of our students.

“I am ready to take on a more formal leadership role within the district and I am excited by the flexibility and options that Opportunity, WW Online and the new online ASU program offer for our students,” said Ahrens. “I think that the Alternative Learning Education setting fits well with who I am as a leader and human being.”
