Edison Arbor Day Celebration

City plants tree at Edison Elementary for Arbor Day celebration

The City of Walla Walla partnered with Walla Walla Public Schools to plant a Zelkova tree on the Edison Elementary campus near Mill Creek Thursday as part of the annual city Arbor Day Celebration. The City of Walla Walla's Parks, Recreation and Urban Forestry Advisory Board sponsors the annual tree planting program. Walla Walla has earned Tree City USA recognition for 29 consecutive years.

City Parks and Recreation Director Andy Coleman and Mayor Pro Tem Steve Moss shared information to help students learn the importance of the city's urban forest and how trees improve our quality of life. Edison 5th grade students joined in the celebration and second graders, under the direction of Music Teacher Chantell Lopez, sang a song to add to the festivities.

The school’s student leadership team joined city officials and Superintendent Dr. Wade Smith in planting the new tree. Students also received saplings to take home and plant in honor of Arbor Day. Thanks to the City of Walla Walla for its support of this long-standing Arbor Day program.
