Pioneer Middle School student hit by car while riding bike to school this morning

WALLA WALLA, Friday, Sept. 24 - A Pioneer Middle School student was hit by a car this morning at the intersection of Pleasant and Wilbur Streets in Walla Walla while riding a bike to school, according to a Walla Walla Police Department report.

The student did not report the incident until later in the school day. Pioneer Middle School Principal Dana Jones immediately notified the City of Walla Walla Police Department upon receiving news of the incident.

According to a report from the Walla Walla Police Department, the student said she was knocked to the ground after impact with a dark Sport Utility Vehicle. The student said the collision stunned her, but she was able to get up and walk her damaged bicycle to school.

First responders were not called to the scene and student said the driver involved in the incident did not get out and check on her condition, according to the police report. City of Walla Walla Police officers are continuing to investigate the incident.

Superintendent Mick Miller went to Pioneer Middle School to talk to the student, school officials and the police. He continues to stress the need to be cautious when driving vehicles, especially in school zones and during the hours before and after-school.
