District receives "Urgent Repairs Grant" for Pioneer Middle School boiler
Walla Walla Public Schools recently received a $100,000 "Urgent Repairs Grant" from the Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction for a new boiler at Pioneer Middle School. Total cost of the project is anticipated to be $400,000. Installation is expected to happen during the summer of 2012.
"The new boilers will be more energy efficient and will allow us to heat part of the building at a time instead of all or nothing," said district Chief Financial Officer Pat Johnston. "The boilers date from the original construction in 1950 and are well beyond their expected life."
