District honors Constitution Day
In 1787, fifty-five men, who were later known as Founding Fathers, gathered in Philadelphia to revise the Articles of Confederation. Instead, they wrote the Constitution of the United States. The preamble of which being & "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
September 17, 1789 was the day the Constitution was adopted. In 2004, Congress decreed that September 17 would be Constitution Day, a federally observed day.
With this September 17 being on a Saturday, the observance of Constitution Day is September 19.
