Poor air quality keeps students indoors and forces cancellation of sports contests

Thursday, Sept. 20: WALLA WALLA - Walla Walla Public Schools students will not go outside today for physical education classes and recess due to poor outdoor air quality. The Walla Walla High School home cross country meet and home freshmen football game have been canceled today. They will be rescheduled at a later date.

"The safety of our students is our paramount duty," Superintendent Mick Miller said.

According to Health Department Director Harvey Crowder, very young students, those with asthma and upper respiratory issues are most at risk. The district will continue to monitor the air quality to determine the status of today's afterschool sports practices and out-of-town athletic contests.
