District staff receive Altrusa Club grants
The Altrusa Club of Walla Walla has given $1,000 to five district teachers to help address literacy issues in their classrooms.

Recipients for 2008 are Tensie Lovejoy of Green Park Preschool; Diana Erickson, district ESL/bilingual coordinator; Elizabeth Razo, third grade teacher at Sharpstein Elementary; Karen Fuller, first grade teacher at Edison Elementary; and Julie Schisler, second grade teacher at Sharpstein Elementary.

A total of 14 teachers wrote proposals for literacy grant funding this year. The Altrusa Club screening committee members indicated they were looking for proposals that were creative and beneficial to students, and said it was difficult to narrow down the list of recipients. The organization has fund raising activities throughout the year to help finance these annual grants.
