Green Park students poems published in Young American Poetry Digest
Twenty-four Green Park students in Claudia Saldivar's first grade classroom had their poems selected to be published in the 2009 edition of the Young American Poetry Digest.

Also, three of her students -- Taya Lovejoy, Nayeli Flores, and Cristian Sanchez -- received first place, second place, and honorable mention, respectfully, in a statewide contest sponsored by the Center for Spanish Studies located at the University of Washington. The third prize winner is from Seattle. The four other honorable mention winners were from the Seattle and Bellevue.

This year's competition topic was "Yo estuve alli" (I was there). Older students wrote about the topic and/or submitted photography related to the topic. Elementary students drew pictures depicting the topic. There will be a reception on June 6th in Olympia at the Capital Building honoring the 47 students across the state who won their categories.

The Honorable Brad Owen (Lieutenant Governor), Randy Dorn (Superintendent of Public Instruction), and D. Luis Fernando Esteban (Honorary Vice Consul of Spain) will be on hand to recognize the students with their awards.
