Superintendent recommends Peterson as new Walla Walla High School Principal

Walla Walla Public Schools Superintendent Mick Miller will recommend the hiring of Peter "Pete" Peterson as the new principal of Walla Walla High School during the Tuesday, July 20 school board meeting. A broad-based committee of staff, students, parents and administrators was involved in the selection process.

"From an excellent pool of applicants, we have selected Pete Peterson to be the next principal at Wa-Hi," Superintendent Mick Miller said. "I am thrilled to have Pete on board and look forward to working with him. He brings a great deal of energy, enthusiasm and experience to our principal position. I also want to thank the principal selection team for their outstanding work in providing me input on this decision."

Pending approval from the school board, Peterson's tenure will begin in early August. Peterson will replace Darcy Weisner who recently accepted the superintendent position in Clarkston , WA . Peterson, who grew up on a wheat farm outside of Connell, WA, is currently an Assistant Principal at Kennewick High School and was also an Assistant Principal and Dean of Students at Pasco High School.

"Coming to a school like Walla Walla High School with its status in the community and rich tradition is a once in a lifetime opportunity," Peterson said. "I look forward to serving the needs of the community and will seek input and involvement from staff and stakeholders as we work collaboratively to fulfill the educational goals of our students."

Peterson began his career in education as a classroom teacher. Peterson's classroom teaching experience includes:

- Language Arts and Reading teacher at McLoughlin Middle School ( Pasco )

- English as a Second Language and Russian Translator at Stevens Middle School ( Pasco )

- English teacher at Pasco High School ( Pasco )

Peterson completed his Administrative Credential from Washington State University (WSU). He received an Associate's in Arts degree from Columbia Basin Community College in Pasco and then went on to complete his undergraduate studies at Eastern Washington University with a major in Social Science Education. Peterson earned his Masters of Education degree in Education Leadership from Washington State University .
